Survival- the need for basics like food and shelter, the need to feel safe and secure and the need for sex- to reproduce and have children
Love and Belonging- the need to fit in, to belong, to love and be loved
Freedom- the need to have some choice, control and autonomy over what happens in our life, the need to have freedom to... and to be free of....
Fun- the need to grow and learn, the need to have pleasure and enjoyment
Power- the need to be recognised, achieve and be valued.
Car companies and their advertisers have always understood and used these needs as a way to tempt us to buy their products. We will of course tend to buy what seems most needs fulfilling for us at the time.
It is worth keeping these needs in mind as the politicians and their advertisers similarly try to sell us their product. If we know which needs they are appealing to and how they are trying to influence us, then we can make a wiser decision regarding whether to buy what they have to offer...... or not!
